ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

I have been exploring the world through art for many years. After studying visual art at the University of Western Ontario, and the Ontario College of Art, I have been creating art objects based mostly on the rural areas of Southwestern Ontario. I experiment in making images using a variety of processes and materials from gouged and routered plywood assemblages (as in the Haybale paintings), to oil on canvas, and charcoal drawings.

I tend to work on art in a serial manner. I will work in a various medium, or subject matter until it is exhausted and then move on to something else. In my landscape paintings, I sketch on the canvas directly in the environment, and then work oil colour in a bright and unmitigated way in to the compositions back in my studio. My paintings are an examination of the beauty and the colourful geometry that make up the natural surroundings.

Painting is a humbling and meditative experience that forces me to take time to be still and quiet in a frenetic world. Creating is a time for reflection and processing of the myriad of information that races through me daily. It is increasingly more difficult to take time to view our world from any fixed position. Painting provides me with the opportunity to stop, take notice, and take some time for that much needed reflection.
